Last night I experienced my first ever "Connection Event". Our platform leaders Jon, Tracey, and Rhonda did an excellent job and correctly identified the event as a "messy" process ... and indeed it was ... but I preferred Antonio's word for the evening: "Fluid". However, the momentary mess was worth it as close to 300 people got plugged into a new Small Group that night. I thought the volunteers did great, helping people find their "Group" to sit in initially, and easing any of those initial "uncertainty fears". I was fascinated by the self selection process. I was determined to mostly observe and not be overintrusive ... I wanted to see how each Small Group that was forming would solve their own issues of time and place of meeting. A little nudge at the most is all any of the Groups ended up needing. I was interested to see how huge some of the singles Small Groups were, but those larger numbers may play out very well in terms of their health and longevity.
I was especially proud of the singles turnout ... we had over a hundred singles alone come and get connected. I'm very interested in walking alongside those new "hosts" who stepped out of the boat in faith. Most of them probably had no idea walking in that they would walk out as a host of a Small Group ... and in the singles case, possibly a Small Group of 20! Great Work and let's all work together to keep connecting the unconnected!
